Mood: tired
It appears that my past couple of weeks of life-loving have come to an end. This last week of school has taken its took and caused me to overeat, undersleep, and write papers, study, and meet in groups like crazy. It's quite unfortunate. I have this theory about Sundays. If sundays are gloomy and gross, the week will be horrible. This sunday, Green Means Go was scheduled for 8am but it was rained out by a horrible downpour. The rest of the day was all right, a bit overcast and chilly.
Sunday afternoon, I finished my paper for psychology and did some research for my philosophy paper. I'm currently working on my philosophy paper and it's slow going. I'm really sick of the class and know I'm going to make an A so there are no worries. I'm just ready to be done though. In Spanish, I had a final interview on monday, which went badly because i swear I misconjucated all the verbs in the wrong tense. I've got the final listening part on friday which is 20% of my final exam grade. In accounting, my group presented today and that was pretty exciting! We did amazing (so I thought) but we still have to get the written proposal done. In STAT, we're just doing group presentations and we've got a cumulative final for that.
Overall, I'm ready to be done. I actually leave on May 10th, start my internship May 19th, finish on August 15th, and then head off to hong kong on August 21st and I won't be back from HKG until January. I'm actually really scared. After May 10th, I won't seen Austin for the next months unless I come back down over the summer to visit, which I'm sure I will (hopefully). The thing is, I'm ready for classes to be done. I'm ready to get my 4.0 and run off for the summer, but I'm not ready to say good bye to Austin, to campus, or to my friends. I feel like I've just started to warm up to Austin more so than last year, and I'm not ready to part yet. It just seems so quick.
Literally two weeks and I'm GONE. Scary, huh? In the meanwhile, I've got tons of work to do! Good luck to everyone on their finals. We're on the home-stretch! =)

Fly Problem

Mood: Fly Infested
Ok, my roommate and I totally have a fly infestation in our room. I think it's when I brought home the white carnation from the Holocaust remembrance week. At first, we thought they were a bunch of little lady bugs because someone else in our hall released a bunch of lady bugs, but nope.. these are fruit flies for sure. The carnation was in the trashcan, and I haven't taken out the trash in a couple of week, and so now our room has a fly infestation... it sucks. I spent like 30 minutes swatting flies, set up two traps (one with honey and the other with candy), and now my roommate is standing around the room swatting flies too. Ugh. So aggravating!!! Eek.
This week has been pretty relaxing. I've been working hard running studies with Professor Burris Tues, Wed, and Thursday. Basically, we had studies every hour from 10 to 5, and either he or I, or both of us helped run the studies. It was draining, but we got the sample size we wanted and hopefully that yields us the results we want too. Next week, I'm going to start keying in the data we've collected.
Also, Unique Week was this week for GBSA (GLBTQ Business Students Association). I went to the how to do a case interview info session with Accenture on Monday, participated in a mock case interview on tuesday (which was my 1st time, so it was a great learning experience). On Wednesday, I attended the corporate dinner. Overall, Unique Week was a huge success. Also on wednesday, UBC had it's election for new exec. It was exciting. Though I'm not going to be at UT in the fall, I'm really excited about new UBC exec and can't wait to see what they bring to UBC.
This weekend, there's so much going on. Blanton Mix is on saturday, my old world lit professor is having a gathering at his ranch on Sunday. I'm doing the Accenture Leadership Workshop on saturday from 9 to 3, Green Means Go 5K on Sunday at 7am. I've also got to write a 5000 word PHL paper and a psychology paper as well as study for a spanish final interview on monday.
Well, off to swatting flies and studying for my spanish quiz tomorrow. Oh, and if any one has any fly ridding advice, i'd really appreciate it. =)

Another Great Weekend

Mood: Seeing the Light at the End of the Tunnel
Again, this weekend was pretty amazing! I'm totally done with school, although I have two papers due on next Friday (philosophy and psychology), and I have some Spanish assignments (quizzes and oral activities). I'm currently now working on my flights to Hong Kong. I'm trying to work out when I fly there and back, and what stops I plan to make. I also have to start studying for finals and finish some group projects for stat and accounting.
On Friday, I went to San Antonio with my HBA (honors business association) for dinner. We ate at Rio Rio and walked around the riverwalk for a bit. It was nice to experience San Antonio for a bit and hang out with friends.
Then on Saturday, I woke up bright and early at 6:30am and headed up to Dallas to work out the details of my summer sublease in Dallas. We met with the current tenants to negotiate the lease and see the place. It's located in lower Greenville in the Lakewood area of Dallas. It's a 10 minute drive to my offices, and I don't even have to take any highways or anything. I'm super excited, and the place comes fully furnished! We applied with the management to have our names on the lease and expect to finalize that this week. I'm really excited. I'm living with two amazing people, and it should be a good time. I'm just really glad that I got housing out of the way. So on Saturday, we left Dallas around 3:30 and got back to Austin at 7. This weekend was definitely a weekend of driving! Who else can say they hit up three cities in one weekend!
Well, I think I'm off to bed now. Here's to another great week! 2 more weeks of class, 3 finals, and Dallas here I come!

Living Large

Mood: Relaxed
This week, like last week, has been pretty good. I think it's partly because I've worked far ahead in some of my classes so I haven't been stressed doing homework late a night. Also, the weather has been amazing. Though it wasn't sunny like last week, it's been cool and refreshing. I've actually been able to wear jeans and long-sleeve shirts/sweaters! I've also been going to the gym for longer now, which is nice, but it stinks having to leave to go to a meeting or an obligation and finding myself eating in class or in meetings after the gym. I feel like 1.5 hours isn't enough time, especially after factoring in changing and everything. I have been, however, trying to eat a bit healthier (for lunch at least). JCL has powerbars (with 10g of protein). I usually grab one of those and then make my own salad at JCL (spinach, mushrooms, chicken or tuna, and balsamic vinegar). Yumm! Unfortunately, for dinner and post-dinner, my eating habits haven't been so good. I ate like half a pint of icecream last night. Oh well, it's okay to indulge once an a while (ie. every other night).
Besides just enjoying the week, I'm still trying to plan my study abroad. I'm going to STA Travel today to work out airfare. I want to fly to seattle first to visit my brother for a couple days, then go to HKG, and then on my return from HKG, stop in San Fran for a couple days as well. Since my dates are flexible, it's hard to buy that type of ticket online, so I'm going to check with STA to see what they have to offer this afternoon. Also, I've been working on course equivalences some more for HKUST. I got FIN 357H approved for HKUST (I'll just have to write a 5 pg paper and take some comprehension test to get the honors credit). I'm also taking OM 335 abroad and then some accounting class that I need for corporate finance track. (I was thinking about taking Intermediate abroad, but then I decided against that because I wanted to be able to enjoy HKG as well.) I'm also taking 2 upper-division literature classes abroad as well for Plan II. Plan II has approved these to classes, but they haven't officially confirmed this, since the two classes abroad will count for the same course (ANS 372), so I'm trying to figure out if it'll count for the 2 classes I need or if they'll only let me claim one. Study abroad is a Go, and I'm super excited. I don't think it'll set in until I actually buy my ticket and prepare to go abroad.
Yesterday, I also deposited my tax refund! Which means money in the bank! I have a WaMu checking and an savings (which is earning baout 3.25% APY), so I transferred money into that savings account as well. Based on the market though, I'm thinking about opening up some mutual funds and doing some investing. I mean, 3.25% is okay, but I was earning 5% when I first opened it. I'd rather be investing than having my money just sit there. So I want to try to find some time to research on different funds and indices to see what's the best and what I should do. Any advice?
Oh, for my Dallas housing for my summer internship. The girl at SMU just signed her apartment to sublease to someone else, and so my friends and I are still looking for places now. We're going up to Dallas on saturday to see this one place and hopefully that'll work out for us. I'm just ready to having housing in Dallas and not have to worry about it. With my house/family in the Honors Business Association, we're also going to San Antonio tomorrow evening for dinner along the riverwalk. I'm kind of excited about that and can't wait.
Well, I need to study for my spanish test which I have tomorrow, so I don't have to study tonight. Then I'm off to group cycling at 12:10 and then PSY class at 2, then STA travel. I've got Mortar Board initiation at 5:30 and then I'm free afterwards. I orderd the Die Hard trilogy and X-men trilogy (2 of my favorite triolgies) on bn.com the other day for like $30 for both, so I'm hoping to watch one tonight.
Oh lastly, as ya'll know, I do research with Prof. Ethan Burris in Management. Here's a shameless plug about a research study we're doing next Tuesday- Thursday between 11 and 5. Be sure to sign up with a friend if you're interested in making $10!

Amazing Week

Jason Castro sang this song on American Idol this week, and I loved it. Here's Israel K's original:
This week has been nothing short of amazing. It all started last Sunday. The past two Sundays, I've wanted to go to the pool, but the weather wasn't cooperating. Last Sunday started a week-trend of beautiful, sunny weather. I was able to catch some sun at the pool between classes and what not this whole week. To make this even sweeter, this past week wasn't bad homework-wise either. I did all right on the STAT test on Monday, did well on my SPAN quiz and oral activity, and I turned in my PHL paper without any stress or anything. It's weird, but this week was just great!
Also, for housing in Dallas, I'm communicated with an SMU student, and we're working out a sublease. Me and my summer roommate are going up to Dallas this Saturday to finalize the lease and make it happen. I'm actually going to be working for 13 weeks this summer!!! Crazy! May 19th to August 15th. My HKUST orientation starts on August 27th and classes begin on September 1st. I'm probably going to fly from Houston to Seattle to visit my brother for like 3 or 4 days, and then I'll fly from Seattle to Hong Kong, getting to Hong Kong like 5 days before the 27th and live my grandparents just to get adjusted to speaking in Cantonese and the time difference. Overall, I'm pretty stoked!
This weekend was pretty fun as well. I don't have much homework at all. I need to prepare for a Spanish composition on Monday, work on a STAT project, and that's pretty much it. I'll probably start working on Tuesday's accounting homework as well just to get done early. I also should start studying for my Spanish exam on Friday.
My parents came in this weekend for Honors Day. The actual ceremony was pretty dull, but it was good to see my parents. They came in on Friday night and helped me move out some of the stuff from my dorm like winter clothing and other things I won't need for the next month before I actually move out. We went to Hula Hut for dinner (which was my first time there and I absolutely loved) and we had Mozarts for dessert. Saturday, after the honors day ceremony, I took my parents to the Zilker Park Botanical Gardens to see the Taniguchi and Rose Gardens.
Overall, this week has been amazing! Hopeful the coming week will be similar.

Middlesex
Music: What I've Done- Linkin Park
Mood: Content
Yay! I just finished reading Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides, and it was amazing! The writing was so fun to read. Eugenides really conveyed the point of view of the main character, Callie/Cal, and I was able to connect with him on so many levels and really understand his past. The characters were well developed and each of them had unique qualities that made me really connect with the book overall. I definitely recommend it to someone who wants a heartfelt novel with sentimental value. The plot is very unique and refreshing.
Here's a quote that I found particularly engaging. I've read 4 books since spring break (including Middlesex), and many of them have a trend of casting aging as something negative and hapless. It kind of makes me not want to get old to the point where I can't take care of myself. This is from the last chapter:
The sad thing is, I don't know if I'll have time to pleasure read. It took me about 2 weeks to read Middlesex and I don't know how free I'll be for the rest of the semester to read this book as well. Things are starting to get busy. I've got to sort out my study abroad stuff (apply to the actual school, work on flight information, register for the classes I want, visa, medial examination/shots, insurance while abroad, int'l study abroad card, etc.). I've also got a PHL paper due next Friday over Hume, which I find interesting but it's hard to pay attention. I like my philosophy class, but oftentimes, I'm distracted by other things (such as reading in-class, or checking email in class). Spanish is pretty simple right now, but I've got to stay up to date on that. Oh, and for Statistics, I'm obviously shooting for an A, but the tests are scary because they're calculations and also nit-picky definitions as well, so I'm going to have to study hard this weekend.
Also, I made the discovery that I actually like managerial accounting, a lot. It makes total sense to me, and I understand it. However, I still don't know if MPA is the way for me. I haven't taken any finance classes yet, but I hope I'll enjoy those as well. It's just that MPA is so much more accounting than just managerial-- audit, tax, other financial acc't things. So yes, I'm good a managerial accounting and enjoy it but don't think I want to major in it.
Well, I think it's nearing my bedtime. I had to do laundry randomly this evening b/c all the dirty clothes was piling up, so that delayed me a bit. Oh wait, as many of ya'll know, I'm interning with a hedge fund company in dallas (uptown specifically, around SMU area). I'm still looking for housing (a 2br apt) around the area to sublease, so if anybody knows any SMU students who want to sublease, that'd be great. I've found one for about 800 per bedroom, but that's kind of on the pricey side. So let me know if y'all have any options in that area!

I've got to sort out my study abroad stuff (apply to the actual school, work on flight information, register for the classes I want, visa, medial examination/shots, insurance while abroad, int'l study abroad card, etc.). I've also got a PHL paper due next Friday over Hume, which I find interesting but it's hard to pay attention. I like my philosophy class, but oftentimes, I'm distracted by other things (such as reading in-class, or checking email in class). Spanish is pretty simple right now, but I've got to stay up to date on that. Oh, and for Statistics, I'm obviously shooting for an A, but the tests are scary because they're calculations and also nit-picky definitions as well, so I'm going to have to study hard this weekend.
Also, I made the discovery that I actually like managerial accounting, a lot. It makes total sense to me, and I understand it. However, I still don't know if MPA is the way for me. I haven't taken any finance classes yet, but I hope I'll enjoy those as well. It's just that MPA is so much more accounting than just managerial-- audit, tax, other financial acc't things. So yes, I'm good a managerial accounting and enjoy it but don't think I want to major in it.
Well, I think it's nearing my bedtime. I had to do laundry randomly this evening b/c all the dirty clothes was piling up, so that delayed me a bit. Oh wait, as many of ya'll know, I'm interning with a hedge fund company in dallas (uptown specifically, around SMU area). I'm still looking for housing (a 2br apt) around the area to sublease, so if anybody knows any SMU students who want to sublease, that'd be great. I've found one for about 800 per bedroom, but that's kind of on the pricey side. So let me know if y'all have any options in that area!
